Besides the constant pain, sleeping problems are probably one of the most annoying and life-robbing symptoms fibromyalgia patients suffer from. Especially when sleep is non-restorative, no matter the number of hours a person sleeps, he or she will still wake up not feeling rested, feeling exhausted and/or experience chronic fatigue throughout the day.
People with fibromyalgia talk about waking up day after day feeling exhausted with no energy. Usually, people who suffer from fibromyalgia feel more tired in the morning and many go back to sleep during the day to attempt to help their fatigue. Also, it’s common for people with fibromyalgia to have great difficulty focusing during the day, a symptom made worse by the fibro fog a lot of them already suffer from. While fibro fog is often attributed to sleep deprivation, Dr. Katinka believes that fibro fog is not caused by insomnia, but rather made worse by it. The involvement of the cranial nerves is a much likelier culprit.
What is this opinion based on? Dr. Katinka has had dozens of fibromyalgia patients, after being tested with the Neurological Relief Center Technique (NRCT), sit up on the table at Spero Clinic and report feeling clear as a bell with all their senses restored, regardless of being every bit as sleepy as they first were walking into the office. Sometimes, it is the first time in decades that they feel this fog lift. It is Dr.Katinka’s opinion that the malfunction of the nervous system is directly responsible for this annoying symptom, and that it can be alleviated immediately (although temporarily at first) once the nerve communication is restored.
While almost every patient under allopathic care is prescribed some form of sleep medication, these medications only treat the symptom of sleeplessness, and often poorly. If you want to restore deep sleep, it is crucial that the malfunctioning autonomic nervous system be balanced. Remember, your parasympathetic nervous system is not working correctly, and the parasympathetic nervous system controls your rest. To make matters worse, a study found that the less you sleep, the more you hurt, which, in turn, leads to even poorer sleep1.

If you or a loved one is suffering from Fibromyalgia, there is hope! We have found that the most effective approach to treating this condition is to treat the central nervous system itself. When the nervous system is given the tools that it needs to achieve a state of balance once again, signs and symptoms of fibromyalgia tend to resolve.
